Openness Conference

Openness Conference: Communicating the continued need for animal research

Due to the success of the 2024 Openness Conference and the overwhelming demand from conference attendees to do it again, we are delighted to announce that our second Openness Conference will be held in the West Midlands from 9-10 June 2026

Abstract submissions now open

Abstract submissions for oral presentations, posters, and workshops are now open. The deadline for submission is 12 December 2025.

Abstracts should be education-driven and provide practical examples of activities that support openness on animal research. The conference is intended to provide a learning opportunity for anyone with a professional interest in openness, so instead of focusing on why openness is important, we want to provide case studies and practical advice, encouraging attendees to implement change within their organisations.

We would like submissions to be focused on the following themes:

  • Public engagement
  • Internal engagement
  • Online and digital communications
  • Engaging with policymakers and the media
  • Openness and the 3Rs
  • Communicating sensitive topics
  • Openness with limited resources
  • Openness for non-research organisations

We are also interested in how the harms and limitations, as well as the benefits, of animal research have been communicated within these activities.

Successful applications will be notified in January 2026.
