Earlier this month, Wendy Jarrett recorded a podcast with Gavin Costigan, Chief Executive at the Foundation for Science and Technology. The Foundation is a UK charity that provides an impartial platform for debate of policy issues that have a science, research, technology or innovation element. Established in 1977, the Foundation convenes discussion events and round tables, publishes a journal three times per year and hosts a weekly podcast.
Gavin asked Wendy about why and how animals are used in research in the UK. The discussion covered science, ethics, animal welfare and the role of regulation – both the regulations that govern animal research and those that require it.
