PeTA boobs again

More on these Topics:

breast–scan–cancer.jpgThe latest completely irresponsible PeTA campaign uses a crass computer game to push its 'breasts not animal tests' message to children. The web is all a-twitter with reviews panning the game.

Peta2 is the youth wing of US animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. It says peta2 'loves boobies' and carries on:

'monkeys, rats, mice, rabbits, cats, dogs, and other animals often suffer and die because of horrific tests that are conducted in the name of breast cancer research. Besides being cruel, the research is also ineffective.'

Nothing could be further from the truth. Quite apart from the fact that animal research and testing is conducted humanely, animal research was crucial in the development of current treatments for breast cancer. These treatments now mean 8 in 10 women survive for at least five years after diagnosis – see for instance Cancer Research UK’s latest report.

If you want to know more about the development of treatments such as tamoxifen and Herceptin, visit our page on breast cancer treatment.

No doubt PeTA will claim success based on the number of people who have played the game. But they will include people like me who think this is no laughing matter and play it to see just how unbelievably awful it is.
