Celebrate openness with #MiceInResearch (9 - 12 May 2023)

Sunday, 14 May is the ninth anniversary of the Concordat on Openness on Animal Research in the UK. To celebrate this landmark, we are running our annual social media campaign #MiceInResearch.

From Tuesday 9 May to Friday 12 May, we will be celebrating openness and transparency in animal research by sharing information about #MiceInResearch across our social media platforms. We encourage you to do the same by sharing information about the research in mice you fund, support, and/or conduct at your facility. As the latest figures indicate, mice are the most used animal in biomedical research in Great Britain, which is why focusing on this species is important.

The Concordat on Openness was designed to facilitate transparent and open communication between research organisations and the general public, which it has been doing since 2014. The #MiceInResearch campaign takes place primarily on Twitter, Facebook,  Instagram, and LinkedIn, and it is a great way to amplify and clarify information about research involving mice so that it’s easy for the general public to find.

We hope your organisation, and many others, will join share information and resources about how, why, and when mice are used in research, including information about 3Rs projects and steps taken to enhance mouse welfare. Don't forget to use the hashtag #MiceInResearch so that your posts can be shared easily and please tag UAR where possible!

Unable to create your own social media content? We have resources available to download and share from our infographic library, image library, and video library, that include basic information on the use of mice in research.

This year we will be hosting two Instagram takeovers throughout the week in collaboration with Concordat signatories Babraham Institute (11 May) and Imperial College London (12 May). Stay tuned for further important announcements and follow us on Instagram so that you don't miss out!
