case–study.jpgAhead of publication by the Home Office of its response to last autumn’s consultation on transposition of EU Directive 2010/63/EU, we have published a new set of case studies showcasing eight pieces of recent research that have provided scientific insights and medical or veterinary benefits.

Some of these, like Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's Disease, will be familiar, but others probably less so, like the contribution of mouse research to stem cell treatments for blindness and research which may save the entire red squirrel species.

Commenting on the Directive, Professor Fran Balkwill, Chair of Understanding Animal Research and a leading cancer researcher, said:

'The new law will be good for animals, good for science and good for patients. It will mean the same high standards for research across Europe.'
