If there is one thing that anti-vivisection campaigns are good at, it's providing vivid imagery. Unfortunately, the striking images they use can often be inaccurate, out of date, or obtained from countries where animal welfare takes very low priority. That's why at Understanding Animal Research, we think it's important to set the record straight, and provide images and video that show what animal facilities really look like.

Last weekend the Sunday Times cover story took an in depth look behind the scenes at some of the UK's animal research facilities, and covered many of the issues surrounding animal research today - focussing on the emotive issue of research on primates and dogs. The Times' science pages also ran a live online debate on the isse.

Here in the Understanding Animal Research office we were delighted to read this well written and interesting blog titled ‘Why we experiment on animals' on the Times newspapers new science site Eureka Zone. Unfortunately however, the bloggers - two research scientists using animals - decided to remail anonymous.

The new Trailblazing scheme from the Royal Society sheds light on some of the most iconic scientific discoveries of all time, and allows users to access digitised versions of these iconic scientific papers.
The Royal Society, the UK academy of science, has announced a year of activity in celebration of its 350th anniversary. The new resource lets users freely access some of the world's oldest scientific papers online.
The interactive timeline features some of the earliest examples of research on animals which led to lifesaving treatments that we rely on in modern medicine. One of the earliest original papers featured is Robert Boyle's early experiment with blood transfusion from one dog to another.
